‘Miss Sloane’ is a fantastic new political thriller directed by Academy Award nominated director John Madden (‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love’) about the cutthroat world of the powerful and secretive lobbying industry in the USA.

Elizabeth Sloane (played by Jessica Chastain, ‘The Zookeepers Wife’ – Read our review HERE) is a brilliantly smart, sassy and unscrupulous lobbyist who will do whatever it takes to win for her clients. She is the most sought after lobbyist at an old-school lobbying firm in Washington DC run by George Dupont (Sam Waterston from ‘The Newsroom’ and ‘Law & Order’). When the head of the powerful gun lobby approaches Miss Sloane to help convince women to oppose a bill that will impose new regulations on the sale of firearms, she flatly refuses and leaves the firm to join a small unknown firm representing the backers of the law, taking the majority of her young, new recruits with her.

Working with them and the firm’s CEO (played by Mark Strong, from ‘Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy’ and ‘The Imitation Game’), Sloane manipulates and schemes her way through the courts while pushing the ethical and legal boundaries to her advantage- threatening her career and hurting the people closest to her in the process. When she takes on the most powerful opponent of her career, she finds herself at risk of losing everything.

Jessica Chastain plays Miss Sloane to perfection. She looks and acts the part – from her attitude to her outfits she has it down to a ‘t’. She reveals the more vulnerable side to her character particularly well and we get a little insight into her mysterious personal life, which makes the story all the more compelling. The film is well cast with some superb familiar faces, including John Lithgow as Congressman Sperling. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is superb as Miss Sloane’s colleague, Esme Manucharian, who has deep dark secret that Miss Sloane knows about and uses it for her own gain, resulting` in devastating consequences.

‘Miss Sloane’ is a clever, riveting and thoroughly gripping film from start to finish with twists and turns where you least expect them. Don’t miss this one.
